Crafted with unwavering dedication by the esteemed Bertani estate, the 2022 Recioto della Valpolicella Valpantena DOC is a sublime dessert wine born from patience and precision. It hails exclusively from the sun-drenched, terraced hills of the Valpantena valley, a sub-region renowned for its ideal microclimate. Made from a blend of 80% Corvina Veronese and 20% Rondinella grapes, its creation is an act of selection: only the smallest, most potent berries are hand-selected to undergo a meticulous 150-day natural withering process ('appassimento') on traditional mats. This concentrates the grapes' natural sugars and complex flavors. Fermentation is carefully interrupted to preserve its precious natural sweetness. The wine then matures for approximately 12 months in large 30-hectoliter cherry wood tanks, a masterful choice that exalts the wine's inherent cherry and red fruit aromas without overpowering oakiness. The result is a wine of captivating beauty. It presents an intensely deep ruby red color and an opulent bouquet of ripe prunes, black cherry, raspberry, vanilla, and bitter cacao. On the palate, it is lusciously thick and velvety, offering a full-bodied, fragrant, and intensely flavorful experience. While unmistakably sweet, it possesses remarkable structural elegance, supported by refined tannins and vibrant acidity that prevent cloyingness.
